Worcester’s Hopmarket – home to an eclectic mix of shops – is organising a host of festive events in the run up to Christmas.
The retail space on The Foregate will present a Victorian Fayre Fringe Event on Saturday 30 November; everyone is welcome.
The family friendly event – which runs from 11.00am until 6.00pm – will include sustainable Christmas arts and crafts from Spare Room Arts making Christmas crackers, cards and crowns; face painting by Make up and Beauty Lounge owner Jordan Wickham; Christmas gifts; origami dragons from Joy Gifts; festive food and drink, including an outside bar ran by Tonic; a Christmas selfie photo booth by Hopmarket Flowers. There will be live entertainment throughout the day, including Worcester Ukuele Band at 12.30pm, the Salvation Army band at 1.30pm, and acoustic, soul and blues singer Kringo Blue at 2.30pm and 3.55pm. There will also be a traditional Christmas carol singalong and seasonal performances at 5.15pm from Wymsical Theatre.
Other events and activities during the day will include The Hopmarket’s Christmas tree lights switch-on ceremony at 2.00pm.
Participate in Art will be hosting a gallery featuring local artists.
The day will be supported by shop tenants, who will be getting in the festive spirit.
Bill Simpson, Trustee at The Hopmarket Charity said: “We are delighted to be putting on such a festive extravaganza this Christmas. As an independent shopping courtyard in the heart of our community, such events are hugely important to us, bringing residents, visitors and shop tenants together.”
The event is free; charges apply for some activities. The event is supported by Worcester City Council and The Hopmarket Charity.
Spare Room Arts has been operating for 10 years, specialising in outdoor events, music festivals and tailor-made workshops. The team at Spare Room Arts work with schools, community groups and on council and arts council-funded projects.
The Hopmarket has been a place to do business since 1731, where dealers came to trade hops. In the early 1900s the site was replaced with the current building to become a hotel and bank before being converted to a thriving shopping courtyard.
