Singers invited to ‘Come & Sing’ an Elgar classic at one-day Worcester workshop

Worcester Festival Choral Society is inviting amateur singers of all kinds to an exhilarating ‘Come and Sing’ choral workshop day on Saturday 1 April 2017.

The workshop, which takes place in The King’s School’s historic College Hall, behind Worcester Cathedral, offers singers the chance to rehearse and informally perform Sir Edward Elgar’s choral classic The Dream of Gerontius in just one day.

Led by Worcester Cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music, Christopher Allsop, the event starts from 9:30am and concludes at around 5:00pm, after an informal performance that participants’ friends and family can attend free of charge.

Ben Cooper, Chairman of Worcester Festival Choral Society, said: ‘Whether you’ve sung Dream of Gerontius before or are trying it out for the first time, this Come & Sing day will be both fun and rewarding. You don’t need choral experience to take part, but if you can read music you’ll get the most from the day. It’s a superb chance to enjoy what is often considered Elgar’s finest choral work.’

Worcester Festival Choral Society’s inaugural Come & Sing event in April last year, which offered a taster of Mendelssohn’s Elijah, attracted more than 160 singers from across Worcestershire and beyond.

Dream of Gerontius music score hire, and free tea and coffee, are provided within the ticket price of £20.00 (full time students £10.00). Singers can also pre-order a delicious home-made packed lunch when they book, or buy cakes on the day. Tickets and full information from www.worcesterfestivalchoralsociety.org.uk.
