Were Forest charity on the hunt for golden volunteers

Wyre Forest charity KEMP Hospice is on the lookout for a golden number of people to take up volunteering in the new year, as it looks to boost the number of people helping in its charity shops and donation centre in its 50th anniversary year.

KEMP Hospice operates seven charity shops across the region, including a furniture store and a donation centre on Lisle Avenue in Kidderminster, as well an online eBay store and a ‘by appointment’ bridal shop.

Each week tons of pre-loved clothing, toys, furniture and miscellaneous items are donated to the charity, which are sorted by hand and delivered to its shops in Bewdley, Stourport and Kidderminster with items ranging from books, DVDs and designer clothes; even items such as rare albums. All profits generated by KEMP shops contribute directly to the income the charity needs annually to provide free care and support to people dealing with life-limiting illnesses and bereavement. This year, it is hoping to encourage 50 people to come forward to offer a helping hand by becoming one of its new Gold Star Volunteers.

Head of Retail at KEMP is Lynne Haines, who said: “Our volunteers are the life-blood of KEMP Hospice and without the small army of people who donate their time and expertise to us, I don’t know what we would do. It takes a very special kind of person to volunteer, someone that has a sense of wanting to do some good for their community or someone who has retired and wants to ‘give back’ in their spare time. Volunteering in our KEMP shops and in our donation centre is a great way for people to get out and meet new people and to contribute to the vital work of the charity. It’s also a brilliant way for people to gain some retail experience if they’re looking to get back into work. It could be sorting out clothes, posting items on our eBay shop, working in the shops or delivering sorted items to all of our stores. Volunteering is a great thing to do and over this year, which is our 50th anniversary year, I would love to find 50 people or more who could spare time to help out a brilliant local charity. It really is a golden opportunity!”

KEMP’s retail shops can be found at the following locations:

• Coventry Street, Kidderminster
• KEMP Shop and KEMP Furniture: Tan Lane, Stourport-on-Severn
• KEMP Discount Store: Worcester Street, Kidderminster

KEMP Hospice was established in 1969 and has, over the last five decades, provided care and support to thousands of people across the Wyre Forest district who need help dealing with a life-limiting illness or bereavement. It costs around £1.5million a year to provide its services free-of-charge to people of the Wyre Forest with KEMP retail shops contributing a vital source of income for the charity.
